Circular 4/2009. Decisions of the Plenary
session of 6-2-2009 regarding the promotion
of varieties and white wines

Considering that the promotion of Rioja white wines is a strategic opportunity which the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja cannot miss and that, on this basis, the incorporation of new white varieties was approved unanimously in order to improve the current varieties available to us, and properly maintaining the original varieties, particularly Viura, the DOCa Rioja Control Board Plenary, met in extraordinary session on 6 February 2009, and adopted, among others, the following decisions:

• To unlock the agreement of the Control Board that prevents the planting of Viura.

As a result, it is made known that from the date of publication of this Official Circular in the Official Gazettes of the Autonomous Communities where the Designation is present, the planting of the Viura variety will be favourably reported regardless of the origin of the replanting rights.
