Bodegas Laukote
At Bodegas Laukote we stand firmly by our philosophy: Quality. Founded in 2004 by Norberto Miguel and Josune Biurrarena, both descendants of a long line of wine growers of Laguardia, Bodegas Laukote is the fruit of their desire to create high quality wine, produced in a more traditional manner. With the intention of recovering age-old wines, those from our grandfather’s time, we use production methods that are also age-old, in addition to carefully selected grapes that grow on very old vines, putting the quality of the wine above the volume of the production, which is very limited.
The combination of these three factors is of vital importance: very old vines, carefully selected grapes and meticulous traditional production, give way to an excellent wine which despite its short life has already managed to find its own place among some of the better known wines from Álava.
Bodegas Laukote is one of the smallest wineries in Álava, with only 8.5 hectares of vines, of which 7 are its own and most of those are old vines, with 90% of the vines producing the Tempranillo variety and 10% are Viura variety.
This winery strives itself on the total selection of its grapes, and markets its wine through five different brands: Laukote joven, Laukote Vendimia Seleccionada, BORG, Laukote blanco Fermented in cask and last of all, its new Tostados de Laukote, a sweet wine which is a pioneer in Spain for being the first wine produced using the French method known by the name of Sauternes.
