Sobre la bodega
Bodegas Altanza is located in Fuenmayor (Upper Rioja) and was founded in 1998. It was created with a clear, well-defined purpose: making quality wines and marketing them at a fair price. Main brand Lealtanza was chosen for its attractive connotations since it meant ‘loyalty’ in Old Castilian: loyalty to the region, to the main Rioja variety (Tempranillo), and to our partners and customers.
The project follows a tradition and technology balancing principle, applied to our original vocation of making elegant reservas. Tradition is thus reflected in certain features, like the choice of vertical hydraulic presses or the extra value added to the ageing process by nine 22,000L Allier vats. Besides, 95% of our 7,100 barrels are made of French oak. Technology can mainly be seen in our stainless-steel tanks of several sizes, all equipped with temperature-control jackets and allowing for micro-oxygenation during fermentations. Our estate spans 300 ha. (740 acres), 220 of which are vineyard. The estate provides sixty percent of the total amount of grapes we need; the rest follows a strict selection process.
The Altanza team believes passion for wine, maintaining quality year after year and patient brand building are the reasons behind its being one of the most acclaimed young wineries in Rioja. Our Lealtanza Artists Collection exemplifies this.
