Berceo
Description of the municipality
Located in the valley of San Millán de la Cogolla, Berceo has some delightful natural spots where the visitor can enjoy the landscape or practice trekking.
One of the most interesting visits in the area, along the Route of the poet Gonzalo de Berceo, is to the monasteries of Yuso and Suso in San Millán de la Cogolla, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Another excellent walk is along the Route of the Cueva del Santo (saint’s cave): 12 km from Berceo you will find the Campos de Urre, from where you can reach the Ermita del Santo (saint’s chapel), where San Millán himself spent 40 years away from the humdrum of everyday life.
