Pradejón

Pradejón was founded by shepherds from Calahorra, and stockbreeding was the main activity in the past.

However, with the rise in the town’s population in the 19th century agriculture became the main economic activity, mainly in the nearby vineyards, cereal fields and olive groves.

Industry was almost non-existent, just a few small craft workshops to supply the local market.

Nowadays, the mushroom is king in Pradejón; the town produces 9,000 tons of fresh button mushrooms a year. Around 25,000 tons are sent to processing plants, accounting for 47% of production in La Rioja and almost 30% of the total for Spain.

Another star product is wild mushrooms, with a production of around 4,000 tonnes a year.
