Parker awards its coveted 100 points to two Rioja wines

- In total, 77 DOCa wines obtained 95 points or more
- The report highlights the development of “Vinos de Pueblo” and “Viñedo En” and the work of the Control Board’s technical services with respect to the Centenary Vineyards
February 28th, 2025-. The Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin continues to reap success. Wine Advocate recently released its Rioja 2025 Report, known as “The Parker List” (from US critic Robert M. Parker), which placed two Rioja wines at the top, awarding them the highest possible rating, the coveted 100 points. They are Quiñón de Valmira 2023, by Álvaro Palacios and Las Beatas 2021, by Telmo Rodríguez.
In addition, with 99 points, the wine Kalamity 2023, by Oxer Bastegieta stands out, and in total 77 Rioja wines obtained 95 points or more, demonstrating both the quality of the Designation and its diversity, having tasted red, white, rosé and sparkling wines.
Besides to highlighting the outstanding quality of Rioja wines, wine critic Luis Gutiérrez, in charge of compiling the list, celebrates in the report the development of the “Viñedo En” (“Vineyard In”) category, which complements the “Vinos de Pueblo” (“Village Wines”) category. The introduction of this concept, approved by the Control Board Plenary a year ago, reinforces the strategy of highlighting the origin of both wines and vineyards, providing more differentiating tools for Rioja operators.
The critic stresses that there are “many exciting topics and projects” underway within the wine region, and highlights the project of the Control Board and the technical services to preserve and enhance the value of the old vineyards and centenary vineyards of Rioja, based on the registration and review of 97% of these vineyards so far, ensuring their future.
