Entrena
Rioja Alta

Entrena

Entrena is located on a plateau with the River Antiguo running through the municipality and irrigating its market gardens. The town was originally built as a fortress, with concentric streets going down the hillside it stands on.

Most of the town’s land is used for crop cultivation, and very little with autochthonous vegetation remains, although some (previously abundant) elm trees are being recovered. In 1994 the San Lázaro area was repopulated with pine trees, and in untilled areas you can find oak, Aleppo pine and ilex trees, with a high presence of thyme, spiny restharrow and rosemary.

The area’s wildlife includes rabbits, hares, badgers and weasels, and foxes and roe deer can be seen at times.
