Autol is a village mainly dedicated to asparagus, fruit and other vegetables that have created jobs for the local people in its canning plants.
Another notable sector is mushrooms (both button and wild), one that has increased in importance in the municipality to become the main production centre in Spain. It is now known as the ‘Mushroom capital’, and also can call on the services of the Mushroom Technology Centre of the Government of La Rioja.
Another of the pillars of the economy of Autol is grape-growing, both head-pruned and espalier, the most common varieties being Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache).
