Descubriendo La Rioja Alta, S.A.

Sobre la bodega

Founded by five families in 1890, La Rioja Alta, S.A. It is located in the emblematic neighborhood of the Haro Station. A winery that is a symbol of Rioja wine and in which tradition and modernity coexist perfectly. The Gran Reserva 890, Gran Reserva 904, Viña Ardanza, Viña Arana and Viña Alberdi wines are made here.

Quality, elegance, innovation, passion, and evolution. These are the pillars upon which five families, passionate about wine, founded the 'Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta' in 1890. Today, their descendants remain principal shareholders and directors of the winery, with the same enthusiasm and commitment. The ongoing pursuit of excellence has led this iconic house to blend the wisdom of winemaking tradition—crafting their own American oak barrels in-house, traditional rackings, long aging processes, etc.—with the most modern production technology, as reflected in their firm dedication to R&D and their sophisticated grape optical selection system, implemented in 2015.

For La Rioja Alta, S.A., ranked by Drinks International as the fourth most admired winery in the world, owning their own vineyards is one of the keys to crafting high-quality Rioja wines exclusively in the best vintages. Today, the winery in the Station District owns over 587 hectares of vineyards planted in Rioja's most exclusive areas, with Tempranillo as the main variety, along with other native grapes such as Graciano, Mazuelo, and Garnacha, which lend the recognized personality to their labels: Gran Reserva 890, Gran Reserva 904, Viña Arana Gran Reserva, Viña Ardanza, and Viña Alberdi.

With extensive experience in wine tourism, the winery offers its customers, friends, and members of the Harvest Club—the oldest in Spain—a unique experience at its facilities, lounges, tasting rooms, private dining areas, and its newly opened 'El Garaje del Club de Cosecheros'. Moreover, the winery stands out for its firm commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through its dedication to environmental sustainability and its 'Viña Ardanza Solidario' program, which allocates 1% of its annual profit to NGOs for agricultural development projects in impoverished countries. This program earned them the 'Social Company Award' in 2017 and the 'CaixaBank Solidarity Award' in 2021.
