Winery opened in 2005 with a unique architectural project signed by the architect Javier Arizcúren, who received the Technal-Aluminum Architecture Award in 2007 for its integration with the landscape. 80% of the building is excavated on a hill, taking advantage of the thermal stability for the aging of the wines and, above all, the design by gravity that allows the entry of the vintages into the warehouses of the winery without using pumps, looking for the greater integrity of the grape, avoiding oxidations.
In 2009, Marqués de Terán becomes the first winery in the world to incorporate geothermal energy as a basis for winemaking processes. Geothermal energy reduces the thermal jump in winemaking processes and reduces indirect emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere by more than 80 percent.
