Spanish Wine Guide Peñín, elevates Rioja, the Denomination with the highest scores in its 2025 Wine Guide

The Qualified Denomination of Origin (DOCa) Rioja continues to reap successes. The leading wine Guide in SpainGuía Peñín” has released the results of its annual tasting, which will shape its 2025 Wine Guide, and it highlights Rioja as the Spanish Denomination with the highest number of entries, with a total of 1,113.

Moreover, Rioja is the highest-rated Spanish Denomination by Peñín, with 742 wines scoring 90 points or more, representing almost 70% of the DOCa’s entries. The Guide also highlights 63 Rioja wines with 95 points or higher.

By wine type, Rioja reds remain the national leaders, with 834 entries, while the DOCa’s whites are gaining ground, with 219 wines included. Rioja’s rosés and sparkling wines have also earned high ratings, with 55 and 5 entries respectively, all showcasing the great diversity of the Denomination.

Additionally, a Rioja wine has achieved the coveted 100 Peñín points: Las Paulejas 2020 from Bodega Contador, joining seven other Spanish wines in the prestigious ranking described by the Guide as “the wines that define the excellence of a country.”

For this edition of the Guide, which will be available in bookstores next October, wines from 128 different geographical indications (IGP, DO, DOP, etc.) across Spain were tasted.
