  • Candidates from all over the world can now apply for one of the three editions that will be held this year in May, July and November
  • As part of Rioja Wine Academy, the programme aims to benefit the wineries of the DOCa by creating valuable contacts in strategic markets and boost their international visibility

Today, the DOCa Rioja Control Board launches the candidate registration and selection process for new Rioja Camp training programme, through the Rioja Wine Academy platform, the educational framework spearheading this new initiative.

The programme is the most-exclusive immersive training programme created by a Designation of Origin, aiming to gather leading wine professionals in Rioja. It is aimed at wine experts with an educational background who wish to deepen their knowledge of Rioja and its wines. The programme targets internationally recognised wine educators, sommeliers, wine buyers and importers with the power to connect Rioja with new audiences and markets; as well as communication professionals, such as journalists, bloggers and opinion leaders with a broad international reach.

After a rigorous selection, only the top 75 candidates will be chosen from all applicants worldwide, with 25 slots for each of the three sessions planned this year: May 27-30, July 1-4, and November 4-7.

Through its carefully designed and structured programme, focussing on excellence and quality, Rioja Camp gives participants the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the singular wine culture of Rioja. The programme features conferences, masterclasses, exclusive visits to vineyards and wineries, as well as tasting sessions and dinners with wine makers, winery owners and other experts. All participants will receive a certificate upon completing the Rioja Camp programme.

Covering topics such as sustainability in the DOCa, minority grape varieties, regional contrasts, and geographic distinctions like “Singular Vineyard” and “Village Wines,” participants will explore over a hundred wines during their training. The programme´s central theme, the region’s diversity, gives a comprehensive view of Rioja from all possible angles, striking an optimal balance between theory and practice for an intense and unique educational experience, deepening the understanding of Rioja and its wines.

This new programme from Rioja Wine Academy serves as a powerful tool for promoting the diversity of Rioja and its wineries, who will benefit from hosting such a select group of expert professionals, allowing them to create powerful international contacts, develop important commercial relationships, and enhance their visibility in key strategic markets.

“Rioja Camp transcends mere wine education; it offers leading wine professionals a unique opportunity to explore and understand Rioja wines, while immersing themselves in the heart of one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions”, declares Iñigo Tapiador, director of marketing and communication for the DOCa Rioja Control Board.
